Alan MacKin became the sole British player to qualify for the main draw of the 2005 Stella Artois Championships after defeating top seed Jeff Morrison in the final round on Sunday.
MacKin, the 22-year-old from Paisley, Scotland, recovered from the loss of the first set to record an impressive 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 victory over the American and qualify for The Queen's Club tournament for the first time in his career.
In the first two qualifying rounds on Saturday, Mackin defeated fifth seed Nicolas Mahut of France before overcoming fellow Briton Mark Hilton 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
The Stella Artois Championships will be MacKin's second ATP tournament of the year, having lost in the first round in Milan to Ivo Karlovic (in a third set tie-break) after also coming through the qualifying competition.
Mackin will now have a chance to record his first win on the ATP circuit, coming into the first round with an 0-5 record at this level with two losses at Wimbledon and two in Davis Cup action against Australia in 2003. He will face Russian Igor Andreev in the first round, the man who defeated Andre Agassi in 2004.
Meanwhile, Ian Flanagan and Jonathan Marray, who both reached the third round in dramatic fashion 12 months ago, both went out in the second round of qualifying on Saturday.
MacKin will be joined in the main draw by Australia's Chris Guccione, Frenchman Gregory Carraz and Michal Mertinak of the Slovak Republic.
