Three-time Artois winner Andy Roddick arrived in London to prepare for his assault on the 2007 Artois Championships and took time out to make a guest appearance on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross TV show.
Roddick, who won three consecutive Artois titles between 2003-05, went to the BBC studios to film his interview with Ross - himself a frequent visitor to the Artois Championships - on Thursday, with the show airing on Friday, June 8.
The American No. 1, who appeared alongside classical musician Myleene Klass, ‘Hot Fuzz’ star Nick Frost and the band My Chemical Romance, was a big hit on the show from the start.
The pair talked about Roddick’s record against Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, “I’m coming in a very strong 1 to 13 against Federer,” joked Roddick, as well as the reasons behind his not-so-great performances on clay. Ross asked Roddick: “Do lesser men win on clay?” to which the American replied: “That’s what I always tell people.”
After his loss to Igor Andreev in the first round of the French Open in Paris, Roddick said he was looking forward to the grass court season. “I’m able to turn my mind pretty quick normally, because I just look forward to playing [Queen’s and Wimbledon] so much,” said Roddick. “You can either sit back here and cry and hold hands and all that fun stuff, or you look forward. Looking forward is normally the better option.”
