Two-time defending champion Andy Roddick cruised through
to the semifinals of the Stella Artois Championships for
the third consecutive year after defeating Sebastien Grosjean
in straight sets.
It was Roddick's sixth win in seven meetings against the
No. 7 seed, having also defeated the Frenchman in the last
two finals at The Queen's Club.
Roddick, who fired six aces during the 1-hour, 25-minute
match, came through 6-4, 7-6(5) to extend his winning streak
in the tournament to 13 matches.
The American has not lost here at The Queen's Club since
2001, when he went down to Russian Mikhail Youzhny. He is
hoping to join Lleyton Hewitt and John McEnroe as the only
players to win three consecutive titles.
"It feels good," said Roddick. "Seb's had
really, really good results on the grass the last couple
years, so I think it was a tough draw for both of us. I'm
just excited to be through."
In the semifinals, Roddick will now face fourth seed Radek
Stepanek of the Czech Republic in what will be the first
meeting between the two.
Stepanek followed up his third round win over Greg Rusedski
with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over French teenager Richard
Gasquet, the No. 10 seed.
Stepanek, a finalist in Milan earlier this year, is appearing
in his third semifinal of the year. He is now an impressive
28-14 in 2005.
