BBC extends contract with the Stella Artois Championships until 2009

The BBC has extended its current contract with the annual Stella Artois Tennis Championships at The Queen’s Club, for a further two years to cover 2008 & 2009.
The extension of this agreement gives BBC Sport the rights to broadcast live and/or delayed coverage of the Stella Artois Championships on all platforms including television, radio, internet and mobile telephony.
Barbara Slater, BBC Head of General Sport said: “We are very proud of our long association with the Stella Artois Championships and extremely pleased that it will continue until 2009.”
An average of 1m viewers watched Lleyton Hewitt beat James Blake in the final of this year’s tournament on Sunday 18 June (BBC TWO).
During the tournament 213,000 viewers watched the BBCi interactive service.
BBC Sport now looks forward to further tennis coverage from Wimbledon beginning on June 26, providing live coverage on tv, radio and online, for the first time ever.
BBC television coverage will be live on BBC ONE and BBC TWO from 12 - 8pm, plus the daily highlights programme ‘Today at Wimbledon’ BBC TWO 8pm.
