American twins Bob and Mike Bryan successfully defended
their Stella Artois Championship doubles title and claimed
their third overall at The Queen's Club with a straight
sets victory over top seeds and recent Roland Garros champions
Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi.
The Bryan brothers recorded a 7-6(9), 7-6(4) win to claim
back-to-back titles and add to their trophy from 2001.
"It's great to be back here at Queen's, defend the
title and beat Jonas and Max who are one of the bests doubles
players in the world," said Bob.
Mike added: "The key to the match today was that we
both served really well and it came down to a few points
in the tie-break. This gives us a lot of confidence going
into Wimbledon."
It was the second title of the year for the Americans having
won in Scottsdale. It was the 25th title of Mike's career,
and the 23rd for Bob.
Bjorkman was hoping to claim his 41st career doubles title
and second here at Queen's (1994 w/ Jan Apell).
Bjorkman and partner Patrick Rafter shared the title with
todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1998 when the final
was canceled.
