Daniel Nestor captured his third doubles title at The Artois Championships after teaming up with Nenad Zimonjic to defeat Brazilian duo Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa.
Nestor, a previous winner at The Queen’s Club with Mark Knowles in 2003 and again last year, defended his title as they came through 6-4, 7-6(3) to claim their second title of the year.
“I feel pretty good,” said Nestor, who has now won 52 career doubles titles. “It’s a great transition from the clay to pick up a grass court title. For me it’s two years in a row and third time overall.”
Nestor and Zimonjic were appearing in their fourth consecutive final having finished runners-up at the French Open last week in Paris.
“We’re confident going into Wimbledon, I think we’ll be second seeds, and anytime you’re the opposite side of the Bryans it’s a nice thing,” added Nestor. “What a difference a month makes, before that we were struggling a little bit. Now we have reached four straight finals with two titles. Unfortunately we didn’t get the big one in Paris, but we’ll have a good chance at Wimbledon.”
Melo and Sa were appearing in their first grass court final and
were hoping to win their third title of the season.
