Djokovic Claims First Masters Shield; Nadal, Murray in Form

Novak Djokovic, the teenage Serb who will be making his debut at The Artois Championships in June, captured his first ATP Masters Series shield last week and became the youngest ever champion at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

The 19-year-old’s victory over Guillermo Canas in Miami capped a remarkable few weeks for Djokovic, who also reached the final at the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells earlier in March before losing to World No. 2 Rafael Nadal, the Spaniard who is returning to The Queen’s Club for the second time.

Djokovic gained his revenge over Nadal in the quarterfinals in Miami before defeating Britain’s Andy Murray in the semifinals – a repeat of his victory over the Scot at the same stage in Indian Wells. After claiming the title, Djokovic moved to a career-high No. 8 in the ATP Rankings while Murray is also at a career-high of No. 11.

Meanwhile, three-time Artois Championships winner Andy Roddick reached the semifinals in Indian Wells before losing to Nadal, who went on to capture his seventh ATP Masters Series shield.
